The Ministry of Alberta Children's Services, created in May 1999, offers
a range of services and programs for children and families. We support families and communities, enabling them to provide
nurturing, safe environments for their children. We strive to break the cycles of family violence, abuse and poverty that
prevent some children from becoming strong, sound individuals.
Front-line staff work on behalf of 10 Child and Family Services Authorities
(CFSAs) which represent and serve all regions of the province. With the help of community and government partners, each Authority
plans and oversees the delivery of programs and services to children and families residing in the region. They also monitor
and evaluate its services, and ensure that provincial standards are met.
Services are also provided by organizations contracted to provide specific
programs and services. For children and families living on reserves, child intervention services are often provided by
18 Delegated First Nations agencies.
As well, through the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program,
participating municipalities and Metis settlements develop and deliver local, preventive programs in partnership with the
province.
